Breast augmentation with autologous fat

Firm, well-formed breasts are a symbol of femininity and attractiveness. Dissatisfaction with one’s own body often causes a lot of suffering and reduced self-esteem in those affected. However, many women shy away from having their breasts enlarged with silicone implants.

A breast augmentation with autologous fat therefore offers a very good alternative to achieve a particularly natural breast shape. However, only moderate breast augmentation is possible with autologous fat. A combination of implants and autologous fat is recommended if the patient only has very thin soft tissue coverage in the décolleté or if the implant is to be placed on the pectoral muscle.

How does a breast augmentation with autologous fat work?

Breast augmentation with autologous fat always starts with liposuction. In most cases, excess and annoying fat is removed from the tummy, legs or bottom, depending on where the patient wants it. An autologous fat transplant always includes an aesthetic liposuction. The fat is then processed using a particularly gentle process before it is injected in the breast. It is particularly important not to inject too large an amount of fatty tissue; otherwise, most of the tissue will be broken down again. It is therefore advisable to inject smaller amounts of fat in several sessions in order to enable optimal growth of the fat cells in the tissue. With two interventions, we achieve a permanent breast enlargement of about one cup size.

Who is suited to breast augmentation with autologous fat?

Patients who want a particularly natural method of breast augmentation are best suited for autologous fat treatment. The desired change in the size of the breast must not be more than one to a maximum of two cup sizes, and the patient must have the fat deposits required for this method and must not smoke. Typically, around 200–300 ml of fat tissue is used per breast for the first surgery. Further enlargement can take place after 3 months at the earliest.

What should be considered after a breast augmentation?

As with breast augmentation with implants, the patient should also stay one night in the clinic for breast augmentation using autologous fat. The compression underwear we put on immediately after the operation should be worn day and night for about 6 weeks. After about 3 weeks, the patient can wear her usual bras again. Remaining sutures are removed after a week. In order to support wound healing as well as possible, sports and other physical exertion should be avoided in the first 2 weeks. The final result of the procedure can be seen after about 3 months.
