What is Botox® and how does Botox® work?

Botox® is a neuromodulator, i.e. it inhibits and weakens the signal transmission between nerves and muscles. As a result, the muscle cannot contract and is weakened. The mimic facial muscles, forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, chin wrinkles and neck bands can therefore be successfully treated with botulinum toxin injections.

Individual Botox® treatment

The aesthetic Botox® treatment is tailored to your individual needs.
The aim is always to simply reduce the muscle effect with botulinum toxin in order to achieve a softer and rejuvenated appearance with a natural expression in a subtle and natural way. The effect sets in after about 5 days and lasts for about half a year.

Botox® for muscle cramps, migraines and excessive sweating

Botulinum toxin can also be used for medical problems such as muscle spasms, migraines and excessive sweating.

Dr. Winterholer will examine you thoroughly during the consultation, explain the treatment options and draw up an individual treatment plan with you.

How is wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin carried out?

In a personal consultation in my practice in Cham, we analyze the troublesome facial wrinkles and determine the desired result. The cost of treatment can vary depending on the desired degree of muscle weakness and the number of areas to be treated. The wrinkle treatment itself can also be carried out in the practice after a short pre-treatment with a pain-relieving gel, if desired. As the botulinum toxin is injected directly into the skin using extremely thin needles, this is very painless.

What should I expect after wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin?

Immediately after the injection of botulinum toxin, there is only minimal swelling in the area of the injection sites. Very rarely, small bruises may form. The swelling usually subsides completely after a day. In the first 2-3 days after treatment, there is usually no noticeable change in facial wrinkles. This only occurs slowly after 2-3 days and reaches its full strength after a week at the latest. If the effect is still not strong enough, these areas can be retreated. Especially if complete paralysis of the muscles is not desired, the necessary dosage for the desired degree of weakness will be approached rather carefully (“Baby Botox®”).

Physical exertion should be avoided on the day of treatment. You can apply make-up after just a few hours.

The effect of botulinum toxin can last for very different lengths of time, as some patients break down the toxin more quickly than others. The duration of action therefore varies between 3-9 months.

Is it possible to stop botulinum treatment once you have started?

As the effect of botulinum toxin increases steadily within a week and does not occur suddenly, the environment becomes accustomed to the slowly occurring change. Similarly, facial expressions only slowly return once the Botox effect has worn off, so there is no compelling reason to have another treatment carried out immediately. However, many patients benefit so much from the Botox effect that they like to come for treatment every 3-9 months.
