Liposuction

Who doesn’t know them – the stubborn problem areas of the stomach, legs and bottom – where the fat reserves never disappear despite strenuous diets and sports activities. A healthy, balanced diet and sufficient exercise are important for good general health and a beautiful figure. However, self-discipline and physical activity are not always enough to shape a firm, slim body – because in many cases there is little we can do about our genetic make-up. For this reason, aesthetic plastic surgery is also dedicated to the classic, stubborn problem areas and helps many patients achieve their desired figure through liposuction.

What happens before liposuction?

In a consultation, each patient is informed about the possible risks, options and, of course, the limits of the procedure. Furthermore, pre-existing conditions are clarified, a health check is carried out and the individual risk is discussed. If a procedure of this kind is an option for the patient, he or she can then embark on the therapy with confidence.

How does liposuction work?

As a rule, the relevant part of the body is marked by the surgeon before the treatment. I use water-jet assisted liposuction (body-jetⓇ procedure, WAL) and VaserⓇ . This reliable method uses the gentle power of water to gently loosen excess fat from the tissue and suction it out at the same time. The particular advantage is that the surrounding tissue, nerves and blood vessels are not affected when this method is used. During the operation, attention must be paid to the individual body silhouette and dents in the tissue must be avoided. The procedure is usually successful on an outpatient basis, only for larger quantities on an inpatient basis. In general, it is recommended that a recovery period of three days be observed immediately after liposuction. On the fourth day, most patients are fully socially acceptable again. Only sports and other physical activities should be avoided for about 4-6 weeks.

Wearing compression garments for six weeks after treatment is particularly important for the healing process. Among other things, it protects against post-operative bleeding, provides lymphatic drainage and adjusts the skin for a satisfying and firm result. The pain is usually mild and similar to sore muscles, but can be tolerated with normal painkillers. The stitches can be removed after just seven days.

Are there different methods for liposuction?
Different liposuction techniques

In the past, liposuction was only performed manually (without technical support), which often led to injury to the tissue, nerves and blood vessels. Newer, gentler procedures work with vibration technology, ultrasound or, like the body-jet® procedure we use, with a water jet. This removes the superfluous fat cells from the tissue and significantly reduces the risk of injury compared to other methods.

When can the final result be expected?

Immediately after the procedure you can already see a clear effect, even if there is still swelling, which will have largely subsided after 2-3 weeks and completely after 2-3 months. The tightening effect of the skin takes up to 6 months. Only then is the final result achieved.

Who is suitable for liposuction?

Theoretically, any healthy person of legal age is suitable for liposuction. Pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease or connective tissue weakness should be clarified with your doctor in advance, as the risk increases in these cases. The older the patient, the less elastic the connective tissue is. In rare cases, a tightening operation may need to be performed at the same time or in a separate procedure if the skin cannot contract adequately over the treated area, for example due to stretch marks or stretch marks from pregnancy.

The fat removed using the body-jet® procedure can be used for further autologous fat treatment, for example for breast augmentation or facial anti-aging.

What are the risks of liposuction?

The risk of a professionally performed water-jet assisted liposuction (body-ietⓇ procedure, WAL) is very low. Nevertheless, as with any surgical procedure, complications can never be completely ruled out. In addition to bruising, in rare cases there may be temporary loss of sensation in the skin. All possible risks are discussed in detail during the information and consultation before the procedure.
